Fall Bible Study: Genesis
Sundays, 9-10 a.m.
Beginning September 12, 2010
We begin at the beginning -- with a 10-week study of the Book of Genesis. This rich and wonderfully wide-ranging book contains so much more than the story of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. It is the story of God’s chosen peoples told with literary richness and spiritual substance. All who wish to read and discuss God’s Word are welcome, so if you have been contemplating it, what better time to join Bible Study?
Adult formation at Ascension offers parishioners a way to grow in knowledge of God, build a deeper spiritual life, and become more obedient followers of Christ. Opportunities to learn take several forms.
The main class offering is a Bible study between services, from 9-10 am, September through May, using the Interpretation Bible Studies series. Classes are lead by lay leaders from among the class. The goal of Bible study is to become more familiar with scripture, gain a better understanding of Biblical times and culture, and discover how the Bible can guide us in our faith journey. In addition, at our Sunday class, we took breaks from Bible study to share Advent traditions, read and discuss Lectionary readings for the week, and learn about four influential theologians under the teaching of one of our assisting priests.
Ascension has a long history of a Lenten teaching series that is part of a Wednesday soup supper and informal worship. Past series have included Via Media programs, movie discussions, and speakers on various topics.
